Creating in Woven Realms? Here’s What You Should Know
Q: Can I make money from my Woven Realms creation?
A: Absolutely. Write a book and sell it on Amazon. Create a video game and charge for it on Steam. Design a card game and crowdfund it. Whatever you make, you can monetize. We don’t take a cut.
Q: What if I want to add my own lore to the official Woven Codex?
A: Great! Submit it through our Codex Contribution process. If we accept it, your lore becomes part of the shared universe—meaning other creators can build on it, it’ll become permanent and open to all. Think carefully before submitting; this isn’t reversible.
Q: Can I create something using the Codex but NOT share it as a Codex Contribution?
A: Yes. You can use the shared lore to create something completely private and proprietary. Other creators don’t have to know about your work or build on it. It’s 100% yours.
Q: Can I create something using the Codex, NOT share it as a Codex Contribution, BUT have it included on the website?
A: Absolutely, submit it through our Community Contribution process. If we accept it, whatever you submit will be included on the website for others to read, explore, and enjoy. Others will know about it, but it’s still 100% yours, and you can continue to license your work however you wish.
Q: What if Woven Realms shuts down? Do I lose my rights?
A: No. The license is irrevocable, meaning no matter what happens to Woven Realms, you keep the rights you have under the Woven Realms Universe License forever.
Q: Can I license my work under whatever terms I want?
A: Almost. You can use any license (proprietary, open, hybrid, etc.) for your Original Elements. But you can’t force Codex Materials into a different license. The Codex stays under the Woven Realms Universe License.
Q: Do I have to contribute to the Codex?
A: No. You can create as much as you want without ever contributing to the official lore. Contributing is optional.
