Throughout all of the lands of Phum large structures called Lodestones can be found. These luminous crystal shards are made of a material not found anywhere else on the planet and come in a wide variety of colours. If someone looks into the stones, they can see the stars above them, even in the middle of the day.
Many tribes have come up with their own explanations for them – some say they are shards from the Creator’s war spear, some say they were left by an ancient civilization that walked to another world.
The visual aspect of seeing stars within the stones, alongside its indestructibility, has caused scholars to draw a comparison between the stones and a material called Puhlukthamin (ผลึกทมิฬ).
Puhlukthamin is a virtually indestructible material, that also reflects the stars above. In fact, because Puhlukthamin is always a deep black (unlike the Lodestones), the stars can be seen very easily without having to look into its structure. So far, no one knows how Puhlukthamin was made, or how the ancients ever managed to forge artefacts from it, as no one has found any way at all to break something made of Puhlukthamin.
The Lodestones found throughout Phum can be found throughout her varied landscapes. Many major cities on the continent are found surrounding Lodestones, and the effects of the stones, namely heightened magic use, are widely sought out.
Magical ores are not uncommon on Phum. These substances, infused with the energy of the cataclysm, are prized for their potent, unpredictable powers, fueling both technological innovation and arcane practices.
“The land here is wild. Every crack and crevice tells a story, and every flower that manages to come out of the ash is a defiant act of hope. I really like their colours…” – Somchai, botanist and naturalist
